about
Adam Conant is a teenage witch who stands about 5'10" with messy auburn hair and hazel eyes. He comes from New Salem, Massachusetts, and is a descendant of the original witches of Salem from the 1600s.
personality
Adam is quiet and likes his own company; even if he enjoys the company of the Circle more often than not, it’s not unusual for him to disappear for weeks at a time and to turn up without expecting anyone to have noticed or been upset and he draws strength from ritual and from research, not from parties and the trivialities of being a high school student. He’s good-looking without vanity and calm even when those around him get fired up but he’s not without his passions and weak points: he merely keeps them close to the chest instead of laying his cards out on the table. When someone he loves is threatened, Adam can be more volatile than any of the other Circle members combined and while it takes a while to stir him to anger, once he’s there, he’s fiercer than the ocean itself. He is fiercely protective of both Diana and Cassie, willing to sacrifice himself on their behalf without a second thought and he’s loyal, loyal enough to deny his own heart and his feelings for Cassie in order to be faithful to Diana. His loyalty doesn’t just extend to the women in his life, though, and he’s faithful both to the idea of the Circle and the rituals they carry out, even when petty squabbling would tear the twelve of them apart. He feels a very strong connection to his past and always keeps a witch’s holidays and traditions, even when most kids his age don’t look past the surface of anything, and in this way Adam is an old soul trapped in a very young body. Adam’s emotions run deep and true and once he sets himself to a task, he will do anything to see it completed. A vow is not something to be trifled with in Adam Conant’s world, even if that vow is painful to keep, and his sense of integrity pushes him toward research and hard work over the quick fixes and flashes of intellect that abusing his power might bring. This makes him less able to make split decisions and stubborn but Adam, unlike most of his friends, is at least willing to entertain the notion of bringing witchcraft forward into the 20th century and making compromises to protect their way of life.
history
Adam Conant is not what he seems. Touched by tragedy early in life, Adam’s parents died in a violent storm and left him to be raised by his well-meaning, if a little odd, grandmother and he’s known nothing other than the charmed life in New Salem, Massachusetts ever since. Adam is one of the Circle, one of the descendants of twelve families who fled persecution during the Salem Witch Trials and practiced their magic in secret far away from the original Salem. While witchcraft isn’t practiced anymore (as far as the townsfolk know, anyway), Adam’s friends are given a wide berth and the freedom to do anything and everything they want. While some take advantage of this and twist it for material gain, Adam doesn’t, and he’s content to practice the old rituals in secret with his close friends and ethereal childhood sweetheart, Diana. All that changes the summer before senior year, though, when the Circle hungers for more power and sends Adam on a quest to retrieve the Master tools, powerful magical artifacts that will allow them to stop playing at magic and start actually doing magic. It’s while he’s on the hunt for these artifacts that he meets outsider Cassie Blake and, due to a spark he felt between them and her willingness to keep his secrets, he entrusts her with a kiss and a protection amulet. Cassie, too, is not all she seems to be and things get complicated when she enrolls at New Salem High for the fall semester and becomes the twelfth member of the Circle, causing the tension between she and Adam to get that much higher; matters become more complicated when Diana, too, considers Cassie a dear friend. Both Adam and Cassie promise to keep away from one another in order to keep faithful to Diana but there are more serious matters at hand: Adam finds a crystal skull he believes is one of the original tools of the Salem coven and accidentally raises Black John, a dark witch, from beyond the grave to wreak havoc on New Salem in the form of four gruesome deaths and a killer hurricane brewing offshore that threatens even more lives. What starts out as fun becomes a race to find the real Master tools before Black John and Circle member turned traitor Faye get their hands on them and Adam, Cassie and Diana have to put aside the personal for the good of the Circle and, more importantly, the fate of New Salem itself.

[IC]
This is the permissions list for IC (in-character) activity.
Answer the following questions with "yes" or "no", as well as additional information if desired. With IC permissions, it's a good idea to elaborate on what other players can expect from your character if they choose to do any of the following:

Hugging this character: If you're a friend, sure.
Kissing this character: Very much platonically, unless you're in a relationship with him.
Flirting with this character: Sure, but he probably won't flirt back.
Fighting with this character: Sure, but give me a heads up as to how deep you want it to go - Adam is a pretty accomplished witch.
Injuring this character (include limits and severity): See above. Just drop me a note.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Sure, we can work it out in dropbox.

General Warnings: Adam is a witch and is very serious about his magic and about keeping his holidays, which include Samhain, Imbolc, Beltane and Lughnasadh. While he's familiar with Christmas and the like, he's definitely a pagan and pretty serious about it. His player is not, so if I get something wrong and you'd like to correct me (because I do not want to offend ANYONE'S religious sentiments) please drop me a note and let me know. I really want to get it right.

[GODMODDING]

Right now, nobody can godmod Adam but if this changes I will update accordingly.

Adam had never had a chance to go to prom on account of missing most of senior year to conduct magic out on the beach and winding up in a strange hotel but when he found a door that seemed to lead to Prom 1993, it was almost too good to be true. Maybe Bella would laugh that it was so far in the past but for Adam, that was the present and he wanted nothing more than to just ask her to go with him. So.

It took him a few days before he drew up the courage and he found Bella in the library late one night, presumably ready to settle in and read while all the normal people were asleep. He had prepared himself with plenty of coffee to keep awake and cleared his throat a little; Bella was impossible to startle on account of being a vampire but he had to maintain the pretense that he wasn't being a creepy stalker.

"So, uh, I kind of had a question. A suggestion, really, if you want to do something other than read books all night? You don't have to, or anything."

Adam still wasn't sure what the jungle behind that door was about but he knew he never, ever wanted to go back. He never wanted to be rained on by blood or tortured with the screams of everyone he had ever cared about. He never wanted to see himself or Issac in such a vulnerable place ever again.

When he stumbled back into the hotel, there was only one person he thought could provide him any solace. He'd heard her voice too, screaming and tortured with pain, and Adam needed the reassurance that Bella was all right. Logically, he knew that Bella should be fine. She could more than handle herself, after all, and probably would be safer in that jungle than he had been.

For all his magic, Adam was still very much mortal and very susceptible to injury. It had only been the sheer volume of water inside that had saved him and allowed him to draw on his powers.

Of all the places Bella might be, Adam suspected the library above anything else. Bella loved to read and had infinite time on her hands. That had to be the place. He stumbled in, flashing a weak smile.

"Bella? Do you have some time to waste?"
